Vulcain – Cricket wristwatch with alarm
manual wind
alarm function
Description
Very nice interesting Vulcain CRICKET wristwatch with alarm function and calendar from the 50s. The Vulcain brand got its most beautiful honorary title in the middle of the 20th century. In 1947, the “Fabrique de Montres Vulcain” presented the first truly functional wristwatch with an alarm. This idea was not entirely new, but no watchmaker had previously succeeded in producing a sound in a normal-sized wristwatch case that was capable of waking the wearer of the watch. To overcome this hurdle, Robert Ditisheim enlisted the best watchmakers and engineers, and after five years of research and development, he was able to introduce the mechanical Cricket caliber that would later become famous. The manual winding movement had two separate barrels, one of which powered the movement and the other the alarm. The piercing sound of the alarm movement was reminiscent of the chirping of a cricket. This watch has become world-famous, also because the former US President JF Kennedy was wearing itit. This watch has a gold plated case with stainless steel back. Silver dial with applied and printed indexes and a date display.
By winding the crown it winds both the movement and the alarm. By pulling the crown half you can set the alarm time counterclockwise. Fully pulled you can set the time. The pusher stops the alarm. Push-in alarm clocks are very rare. Leather strap and buckle unsigned.
