To measure a wristwatch correctly, there are several factors to consider, especially when choosing a new strap or finding the right watch size for your wrist.
Housing diameter (width)
- The diameter of the watch case is measured across the width, excluding the crown (the adjustment knob) on the side.
Lug-to-lug (case length)
- The term “lug-to-lug” refers to the distance between the top lug and the bottom lug. It determines how well the watch fits on the wrist.
Case height (thickness)
- The thickness of the case is measured including the glass.
The lug width or case width of the watch.
These measurements are important if you plan to change the watch band at a later date. To do this, please measure the distance between the two “lug” points on the watch case where the band is attached. For the most accurate measurement, we recommend using a caliper (in mm) or a ruler.
Measure your wrist circumference (to determine the strap length)
- Flexible measuring tape: Wrap a measuring tape around your wrist where you would normally wear a watch.
- Alternatively: Use a piece of string or a strip of paper and then measure it with a ruler.
- Fit: The measuring tape should fit snugly but comfortably—not too loose and not too tight (rule of thumb: you should still be able to fit your little finger under the tape).
- Circumference: Note the length in cm.
