Everything you need to know about operating your Atmos clock

Instructions

This instruction page provides detailed information on how to use your Atmos clock. We explain how to lock your clock correctly, where best to place it, and how to set it. You will also learn what to do if problems arise.

If you have any further questions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Important!

  • Never move the Atmos clock without locking it first.
  • Do not move the hour hand.
  • Only move the minute hand clockwise.

Start-up

1. Location

Choose a quiet, stable location for the Atmos clock that is as vibration-free as possible. Due to temperature fluctuations, locations on exterior walls are preferable. Make sure that the clock is not exposed to too much sunlight, as this can damage the gold plating and cause the dial to fade, among other things.

2. Setting up

If present, first loosen the locking screw under the clock as far as it will go.

Place the clock in its intended location and align it using the spirit level on the front adjustment screws to ensure high accuracy.

Or precise leveling without a spirit level.

Look at the clock from the side to get a clear view of the lower end of the pendulum, which runs through a narrow opening in the plate. Center the pendulum using the opening and the rotating feet. When the small plate is aligned just above the opening and centered in relation to the opening, you have adjusted your clock correctly.

3. Setting

If your watch is not yet locked, lock it before setting the time.

Now carefully set the time a few minutes ahead of the current time, turning only the minute hand clockwise. Do not touch the dial.

If you want to set the watch back from daylight saving time to standard time, i.e., set it back one hour, turn the minute hand forward 11 times to reach the desired time.

Setting the moon phase on the Caliber 544

If your watch has a moon phase display, you can set it depending on the model. There is usually a small slot above it through which you can set the moon phase using a tool or a toothpick. It is best to choose a day with a full moon to set the moon cycle correctly.

Setting the moon phase and monthly calendar on the Caliber 562

If your Atmos has a moon phase and an annual calendar, you can set both functions using the appropriate tool. To do this, first use one side of the tool to turn the adjustment screw in the center of the moon phase to set both the calendar and the moon phase. Pay attention to the position of the calendar. You can then use the other side of the tool to set the moon phase.

4. Start

Wait until the preset time has been reached, then release the locking lever from right to left. On some clocks, this lever is somewhat stiff. Therefore, release the lever slowly so as not to give the pendulum any additional momentum. Otherwise, damage to the escape fork may occur. The pendulum will now swing freely and will take a few days to find its momentum.

5. Fine adjustment

You can fine-tune the watch using the small adjustment lever above the dial. One notch to the right or left corresponds to approximately 10 to 15 seconds of correction in 24 hours of running time.

  • There is a small lever at the top of the movement for regulating the rate.
  • Does it move forward? Move the lever to the left (“–”).
  • Is it working? Move the lever to the right (“+”).

A table in the user manual shows the exact correspondence between correction marks and minutes.

Locking

Wait until the rotating pendulum has turned completely to the right before locking the clock or adjusting the time. Now move the locking lever from left to right to lock the pendulum. Make sure you do this with a smooth, even movement. It is important that you push the lever all the way to the right.

My watch has stopped

Do not turn the minute hand under any circumstances. Instead, carefully move the rotating pendulum to the right by a maximum of 180 degrees with your finger. Then lock the watch with the locking lever. You can now set the correct time on the minute hand as described in the “Setting” section. Then release the locking lever so that the watch starts running again. If it stops again after a while, you can be sure that the watch needs servicing. However, it will often run again for weeks, months, or years, depending on the cause of the stoppage.

Tips for the cold season

If your Atmos is kept in a relatively cool room during the cold season (the temperature is constantly below 16–17 degrees), treat your clock to a little warmth from time to time. To do this, lock it as described in the section “Locking the Atmos clock correctly.” This secures the clock and allows you to place it in a warmer room for one to two days. This ensures the winding function, and your clock will thank you for it! When releasing the locking pendulum, always make sure that the rotating pendulum does not start swinging.
